Patriotic Popcorn

Children may not always enjoy cooking, and by the time their teenage years roll around, they may avoid the kitchen entirely, except to grab a snack, or make a quick sandwich.  But one thing that kids always enjoy doing, is helping with the dessert!  They often get to add their own creative touches, while sneaking tasty samples during preparation.

Patriotic Popcorn is a great dessert for children help make.  It is fun, and easy, and while it will work for any get together, it is especially exciting around Independence Day.  The kids will be proud to share this delicious treat with friends and family!

Ingredients:

  • 1 scoop of popping corn & air popper OR 1 bag of pre-popped popcorn (I used Tender White)
  • 6 oz. white chocolate candy coating
  • 1 bag of red, white and blue M&M’s
  • Pretzel sticks, broken into small pieces
  • Red, white and blue sprinkles, if desired

Lets Get Poppin’:

  1. Pop your popcorn (unless pre-popped).
  2. Place the popped popcorn in a large bowl with the pretzel pieces and M&Ms.
  3. Heat the candy coating in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each time, until melted and smooth.
  4. Drizzle the candy coating over the popcorn mixture and stir to coat. The pretzels and M&Ms will sink to the bottom, so make sure to get those stirred in and coated with the rest of the popcorn.
  5. Spread out on a large piece of wax paper, and top with a few sprinkles (if desired)
  6. Let cool.
  7. Break into pieces and serve in a large bowl.
  8. Enjoy!
