Free art classes? Geared toward children 3 and up, that will teach them about far-away lands, customs and even animals? Air-conditioned spot? Sounds right up any parents’ alley!

Called “Passport to Imagination”, our local Michael’s stores have created a program that provides fun events and craft projects to inspire kids’ imaginations and educate them about global locations. Children have the chance to learn about national flags, local customs and unique, native animals of 18 countries.
“Fun, creative projects offer kids and parents a welcome break from TV and video games on those long, summer days,” said Paula Puleo, chief marketing officer for Michael’s. “Not only are the projects and events entertaining, they are also educational and fun for the whole family.”
Classes are available now through July 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at Michael’s in Saginaw (3437 Tittabawassee Rd., 989-791-4360) and in Midland (909 Joe Mann Blvd., 989-839-4373). The demonstrations are free, and the projects take approximately 20 minutes. Parents can bring their kids anytime between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., and may have to purchase minimal supplies (around $1 per child, per take-home-craft).
Projects include making: United States flag; Kenya flag and lion pin; Thailand flag and elephant necklace; Japan flag and Koi fish kite; Egypt hieroglyphics button and Egyptian cat portrait and many more!
