Homemade Taco Seasoning

If you’re like me at all, then you’ve probably got a cupboard full of spices, some old and some new, but all of them waiting for their moment to really shake things up in the kitchen.  Homemade taco seasoning is the answer if you’re looking for the best way to finish up old spices.  Not only is it incredibly simple to make, and easy to store, but it also lacks the preservatives and monosodium glutamate found in store bought taco seasoning.  I’ve found that this recipe is ideal for fajitas, and enchiladas, but can be used on any food that’s asking for a little extra spice.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Directions:

  1. Mix all of the ingredients together
  2. Store in an airtight container

Suggestions:

  • Use approximately 2 tablespoons for a pound of meat of your choice; add or subtract spice depending on your preference
  • Triple the recipe, so it can be used multiple times, in variation
