Let’s admit it. We’ve all done the not-so-healthy thing for breakfast every so often (or — ahem — often) in the interest of saving time. Whether it’s deciding to skip the eggs & fruit and instead grab a drive-thru latte, or tossing a package of toaster pastries in your kids’ hands as they head out for the day, sometimes the unhealthy choice seems to be all that we have time for. But that’s not actually true! In just three minutes, you can make a nutrient-packed smoothie or shake that is delicious for you and the kiddos too.
This week, on our morning show segment, I will have our local wellness physician Dr. Dan Kehres as our guest, discussing how much sugar is in some common breakfast foods, as well as some useful tips for getting your kids (okay… and yourself!) to eat more healthy, without spending a lot of time in the kitchen. Dr. Kehres has a wellness and chiropractic care practice in Saginaw and also offers health classes, healthy tips and inspiration on his blog. For more info, visit: http://www.kehreshealth.com.
Dr. Dan Kehres’ Super-Quick Veggie Shake recipe:
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
- 1/4 cup frozen blueberries
- 1/2 a banana
- 1 – 2 cups of mixed greens (spinach, romaine lettuce, etc.)
- 3/4 cup water
Blend and enjoy!
Michelle’s Note: I personally have found that when I have one of these every day, after just the first day I feel more energized. After a few days of this, I feel so much stronger, more vital, and more alert. It’s fun to experiment with the recipe, using different fruits and greens, and find different combinations that work for you and your family. Bonus: We turned it into a family project, and my kids like making their own smoothies now!
