Natural Cleaning Ideas – Part 3

Owner of Innovative Media & Design, and designer of Great (Lakes Bay) Moms, there is no denying that creative juices flow through her body.  Kate is our resident idea maker, and eternal optimist.  Having three kids of her own, 2-year-old Jack, and 1-year-old twins, Olivia & Adriana, Kate knows all about the joys (and challenges) of motherhood.

So in the past week I expect you have been cleaning everyday, using your new products and you’re just thrilled. Here are some additional items that you can make that are useful.

Homemade Floor Cleaner
Use on Hardwood, Laminate, Tile Surfaces

Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 cup vinegar
1 cup alcohol
2-3 drops dish soap (Castile, Dawn, etc.)
5 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops orange essential oil
3 drops peppermint essential oil
Fine-mist spray bottle – 24oz

Instructions:
Add all ingredients to spray bottle and shake to combine.
Sweep/vacuum the floor.
Spray cleaner on the floor.
Wipe up with a microfiber cloth.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner:

Ingredients
1/4 Baking Soda
1 cup vinegar

Instructions:
Mix 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 cup vinegar, pour into basin and let it set for a few minutes. Scrub with brush and rinse. A mixture of borax (2 parts) and lemon juice (one part) will also work.

Have you ever walked into a room and caught your children marking up your walls… or putting stickers all over their furniture. Fret no longer. Here are some tips that may assist with these situations.

Marks on walls and painted surfaces: Many ink spots, pencil, crayon or marker spots can be cleaned from painted surfaces using baking soda applied to a damp sponge. Rub gently, then wipe and rinse. If push comes to shove, I hear those magic erasers work wonders as well.

Stickers on walls: Our children covered the inside of their room doors with stickers. Now they are grown, but the stickers remained. To remove, sponge vinegar over them several times, and wait 15 minutes, then rub off the stickers. This also works for price tags (stickers) on tools, etc.
