Sniff. Sniff. Cough. Cough. Ah-ahhhchooooo!

As I travel around the Great Lakes Bay Region it seems that the sounds of the season include a lot of sniffling, coughing, and blowing of noses. I have been surrounded by the dreaded stuffy nosed snot slurps. Yuck! As Michigander’s we know that winter is still upon us.

So, what can we do to help combat the sniffles and congestion? One of my favorite things is to make a menthol rub and keep it on hand so that I have it whenever I need it. I have always had great results when using a rub to help combat chest congestion, cough, and sniffles.

This is an easy recipe for making your own natural menthol rub which is similar to Vick’s Vapo Rub. Get your children involved in the making process. It is possible that they may be more excited to use the product when the time comes.

Here are the ingredients that you will need:

1/4 cup Beeswax Pustules
8 – 10 drops Vitamin E Oil (Used as a preservative)
1/4 cup Coconut Oil
1/4 cup Pomace Olive Oil (Or Virgin Olive Oil)
1/4 cup Avocado Oil
20 – 25 drops Camphor Essential Oil
15 – 20 drops Menthol Essential Oil
15 – 20 drops Eucalyptus Oil

Tips:

·         Try putting it on the bottom of your feet, and putting some socks on. The oils absorb nicely though your feet.

·         Sore muscles? Try rubbing this product on problem areas.

·         Put it in the refrigerator, so that it is nice and cool when you want to use it.

This season when our bodies are vulnerable to seasonal sickness, to keep your family healthy, I encourage you to use natural products to help combat any sickness that you and your loved ones are facing. Keep your family healthy!
