The woods and sugarhouse come to life as Chippewa Nature Center (CNC) hosts its annual Maple Syrup Day on Saturday, March 16 from 10 am to 4 pm with food and fun for all ages! Admission is free for CNC members and all children under age 18, and just $5 for nonmember adults.
Visitors can take a wagon ride to the Sugarhouse to see the process of boiling sap into pure maple syrup. There will also be an 1870s sap boiling demonstration, and visitors can also learn how to make syrup at home in small batches. Enjoy a guided tour of the sugarbush, practice tapping a tree or discover some sugarbush treasure with a scavenger hunt in the woods. Completed scavenger hunts will be entered into a prize drawing.
Near the Schoolhouse, there will be a maple syrup story time and a maple puppet play. At the Homestead area, there will be maple games, crafts and a taste of “sugar on snow,” old fashioned maple syrup taffy.
Visitors can also enjoy a pancake meal in the Visitor Center from 9 am-2 pm for $9 for ages 13 and up, $6 for ages 3-12 and free for children under age 3. Members receive a 20% discount. The menu includes unlimited pancakes with REAL maple syrup, sausage, apple sauce, milk and coffee. Visitors can sample maple cotton candy, and can stop by the Nature Center Store for maple syrup, maple sugar, maple candy and other nature-based items for purchase.
