Halloween Cake Pops!

Cake pops are all the rage these days, and they’re easy and fun to make — AND eat — with your kids. So get ready to get messy, & have fun with these sweet and spooky treats!
Michelle’s Halloween Cake Pops!

Ingredients:
1 chocolate cake, prepared & cooled
1-4 spoonfuls chocolate frosting
1 package white candy coating
food coloring & SPOOKY sprinkles
cake pop sticks
waxed paper or styrofoam block to stick pops in while cooling

Adults & Kids:
Wash and dry your hands and fingernails very very thoroughly. (You may wish to have everyone wear plastic gloves, smocks, and lay a large plastic sheet on the floor – and I’m only half-kidding.) Dump the prepared cake into a large bowl, preferably one that is tall as well as wide. Then… dig in! You want to get that cake turned into crumbles! (Food processor is an option for the not-so-adventurous. 😉 Next, add spoonfulls of frosting, one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each one. The consistency of your cake pop dough is up to you. Less frosting means more cake-like and more frosting gives you a gooier, fudgier middle. When your dough is ready, form into 1-2” balls with your hands or using a small ice-cream scoop.

Adults-Only part:
Melt a candy coating over LOW heat on the stovetop (or follow microwave instructions on the package). Add food coloring to dye your chocolate orange, if desired.

Adults & Kids again:
Dip each stick ½” into candy, then stick it into a cake ball. Do this with all the cake balls and then place on a tray or cookie sheet in the FREEZER for 20 minutes. While they are freezing, prepare your spooky sprinkles and other decorations. When dough balls have hardened, remove from freezer, dip in candy coating, sprinkles, and place on waxed paper or insert into foam block to cool. Voila!

Variations:
– Pumpkin cake inside, white chocolate outside. Sprinkle with pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon. Mmm!
– White cake inside, semi-sweet chocolate outside, stick on little candy eyes. Boo!

These treats are a great snack to share with your class, at a Halloween party, or just with your family or friends! Enjoy… and let us know what you think!
