Violent crime has become more common year after year in the United States. Statistics indicate that every 22 seconds a violent crime occurs. Aggravated assault every 28 seconds, Murder every 22 minutes, Rape every 5 minutes, Robbery every 47 seconds. Most Rape victims are between the ages of 16-27 years of age and 1 out of 3 women will be raped! The justice Department states that Americans are more likely to be victims of a violent crime than they are of being injured in an automobile accident. While it comes as a shock to most of us, it is not the job of police officers to protect us from harm. They are called law enforcement officers and unfortunately unless a law has been broken there is little or nothing they can do.
So it is up to us to ensure personal safety for ourselves and our loved ones. This does not mean that we should take the law into our own hands. Instead we need to further our knowledge of Self Defense to help us protect ourselves from being the victim of a violent crime.
Many people have the attitude “it won’t happen to me” or “That always happens to someone else” YOU ARE SOMEONE ELSE! Sometimes it is just that they don’t use common sense or take minimal precautions that would allow them to avoid a confrontation. If you are attacked will you be prepared? Will you have a plan?
With this new self-defense series, I will try to teach you to become more alert. You can reduce the chance of anyone assaulting you by becoming more aware of your surroundings and taking minimal precautions. The defense tips that you can learn can help you and your family avoid a once in a lifetime violent confrontation. By continuing to practice and learning to become second nature with safety techniques you will often feel more in control, you will have more self-assurance and you will feel empowered!
If you have any questions that you would like answered in this series, or if you would like a Self Defense class held in your area or work place please feel free to contact Master Joseph Stricker at 989-992-9007 or email him at [email protected]. “Stay Fit And Be Safe”
