JEN’S ZEN – WELCOME

“It’s not really like the damn postcard showed.” — A mom, referring to parenting.

Welcome to the grit and the grace that make up my life. And Yours.

You see, I am You — I’m a mother, a daughter, a partner and, namely, I’m a Parent. Whether you’re rich, poor, young, old, have one child or ten, toddlers or teenagers, live in Bay City or Brazil, we have this in common. We Parent. We all know sticky hands. We’ve all held our sick child, and wished we could trade places. We’ve all cried behind a closed door at the deafening realization that “it’s not like the damn postcard”, that there is no map and, through it all, we are all simply…trying to be the best parents we can be. Immense joy and beauty with immeasurable frustrations and insecurities, too. Jen’s Zen. Welcome.

A friend said that life begins at the edge of your comfort zone…I consider myself somewhat private by nature. Sounds strange as I invite you into my world, I know. I’m grappling with it a bit myself. They won’t all be my stories. I’m surrounded by parents a’plenty, hippies to yuppies, who all give me insight into this journey of Parenting. They make up my world – Jen’s Zen. Your comments and questions may become part of it, too…Welcome. So why read Jen’s Zen every so often at www.greatlakesbayparents.com?  Not because I’m some parenting guru, or that I have all the answers, but for this: In reading me, I believe you will also read about You. There’s familiarity amongst parents, and I find no greater pleasure and comfort than that familiarity. Someone has experienced this…someone understands… As I continue down this path of parenting, learning — from a saying my grandmother often used or a thought from the two parent coaches I “carry in my pockets” or an amazing link I find on Facebook or a conversation I have at the park or something one of my children says to me…
