Activites:

.:Apple Pie Play Dough:.
Photobucket
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt (use iodized, not kosher for smoother dough)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • red food coloring (I use the Wilton gel colors)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom

Stir ingredients together well in pot.  Over medium heat cook the dough, stirring constantly until it forms a ball.  Turn dough onto a board (or the counter top) and knead until very smooth.  Cool.  Store in a covered plastic container.

.:Fingerprint Apple Tree:.

Use your fingers and hand to create this easy apple tree!

  1. Stamp the side of your hand in brown paint and stamp it on the paper as the trunk.
  2. Stamp your index finger in green paint and stamp it many times on the paper for the leaves (re-dipping in the paint as necessary)
  3. Stamp your pinkie finger in red paint and stamp it lightly on the paper for the apples (light stamps make rounder prints)

.:Torn Paper Apple:.

This is a great activity for any age. The tearing of the paper is great to build the muscles in little fingers that will help them with cutting skills and fine motor activites.  This is also a great activity to use up some of your scrap construction paper from other projects.

What you need:

  • Green, yellow or red construction paper for the apple.
  • Brown and green construction paper scraps for the leaf and stem.
  • A piece of white paper for the backdrop of the apple.
  • Glue stick

What to do:

  1. Tear yellow, green or red construction paper into small pieces. Remember that the smaller the better!
  2. Draw with a pencil, on the white construction paper  an apple shape.
  3.  Fill in the apple using the torn pieces of paper by gluing them to the center of the apple.
  4. Add the details… A stem and a leaf or two
