Colorful Character: Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum

Location:315 W. Genesee Ave., Saginaw, 989.399.6626, www.michildrensmuseam.com

With over 16,000 square feet of gallery space, Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum is the only hands-on museum in the GLB Region designed solely for children under 12. While traditional museums celebrate heritage and historical culture, Children’s museums are for and about children! Well-designed exhibits encourage children to discover — and simultaneously promote strong, emotional bonds with parents and community.

Tasty Tidbits– Did You Know…?

  • Donated Location

The building that now enriches our children was formerly a car dealership! Mr. Dick Garber donated the building to the Children’s Museum, knowing it would be converted and restored and turned into what it is today – a magical place for our young (and us young-at-heart).

  • Dad’s Day?

Saturday, June 14 will be “A Day With Dad” at the MMCM. Families are welcomed, dads especially, to enjoy sports mascots, a helicopter landing, cool cars and activities specifically promoting S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, English, Math). The first 100 to come receive a free t-shirt!

  • Solar Powered

MMCM is breaking ground for its’ Solar Pavilion this Spring! A sheltered place for summer camp programs, birthday parties and more, the solar panels on the pavilion will generate a portion of MMCM’s power. Look for a flower-shaped “solar flare” in the garden, and an open house that will be announced to celebrate this progressive addition.

“My grandchildren are enthralled with and engaged with the museum,” says Angela Barris, director of MMCM “It’s a great place to play and learn, and a valuable asset to the region.”
