An Organized Medicine Cabinet‏

I was going to write about organizing kids toys, but then I walked into our playroom and it looked like this:

I’m sorry if that image is now burned into your retinas. Time to purge some toys. (And time to self-evaluate. Clearly, I am not a naturally organized person.)

Instead I will show you a space that is more pleasing to the eye. Albeit much smaller, it stays tidy and organized. It is out of the reach of little hands, which come to think of it, is probably why it never becomes a giant mess.

My medicine cabinet.

It wasn’t too long ago that I had medicines, band-aids, thermometers, etc., scattered in different locations around my home. I corralled all of my medical “stuff” and started sorting. First I tossed all expired medicines, took stock of what I had, and decided on the following categories: Adult medicines, kids medicines, first aid, and allergy, asthma, and eyes. I included thermometers and medicine droppers in the kids medicine category.

I put the medicines in dollar store bins and affixed cute labels my sister and I made. (Thanks, Alison!) I keep daily meds and vitamins in a small plastic organizer that is easily accessible in the front of the cabinet.

We have lived with this system for awhile now and I can honestly say it is working beautifully. It’s amazing what a little organization can do for the soul. Now time to go tackle that nightmare in the playroom…
