Librarian Secrets: Introducing Wonderbooks!
At Bay County Library System, we carry audiobooks in many formats:
- traditional books on CD,
- CD and book kits,
- Playaways (MP3 players about the size of a deck of cards with one title pre-loaded onto them),
- and new to our branches in 2020, Wonderbooks!
Wonderbooks are hardcover books (picture books, early readers, and even chapter books) with an audio book player embedded into their front cover. Wonderbooks will read the entire text of the book aloud (with or without headphones) and kids can follow along with the written text. The Wonderbooks player also comes pre-loaded with comprehension questions to check your young reader’s understanding of the story. Wonderbooks have a rechargeable battery but you should be able to listen to the story over and over again without worrying about it—the company says the battery should be able to go over 50 listens of a picture book without needing to be re-charged!
There is no charge to borrow a Wonderbook from BCLS and they may be checked out for 3 weeks. They are subject to our audiovisual item limit of 25 items (including DVDs and Launchpads, etc.) so you can have several checked out at once.
Wonderbooks for browsing and checkout are available at all of our branches.
