Midland Center for the Arts has opened their newest pop-up STEM exhibit in the IFF & DuPont STEM Exhibit space. At the Speed of Light is a hands-on, immersive, and interactive exhibit where children and families can discover the vibrant world of light and the properties of the light spectrum. Learn about the physics of light as you experiment with its movement and bending, explore how our eyes perceive light and color, and uncover the tricks it can play on us, all while exploring nature’s forms of light!
“As an educator I believe that this exhibit bridges the gap between fun and a challenging topic,” says the Center’s Tour & Public Program Specialist Lauren Honaman. “The science of light, color, and our eyes is easily communicated through activities, workshops, and demos.”
A special focus is given to Earth’s most famous lightshow, the Northern Lights. Explorers can learn how different light lengths lead to the spectacular Aurora Borealis. Other activities feature laser mazes, creating optical illusions, prisms, and color theory. Get your hands on a giant Lite Brite, play with electricity, and discover the science of shadows. Some stations even offer take-home activities. Recommended for grades 2-8, At The Speed Of Light is open until May 26th.
At The Speed Of Light is sponsored by Blasy Electric and QRP.
