Remember the Love on Mothers’ Day
While most women appreciate gifts of any kind, all women appreciate gifts that come straight from the heart with raw emotion and sentimentality.
I have many women in my life that I completely respect, admire, and appreciate. They have wrapped their arms around me in prayer and love, and helped mold me to become who I am today.
Maybe Mothers’ Day shouldn’t just be called Mothers’ Day. Maybe, instead, it should be called “Honor the Women in Your Life Day,” because so many, mothers, or not, have been so beneficial and influential in my life.
Like I said, gifts are gifts. They are typically store-bought and materialistic, and one day, they will be left in a closet, or on a shelf. That is why I think Mothers’ Day should be celebrated a little differently. Rather than buying a gift from a store, I think it’s more meaningful, on sentimental holidays like this, to do something that will stay with your mom – in memory, or affectionately tucked away. That is why I prefer to write a letter.
I have decided to start a new tradition this year.
I am going to write letters to all of the women who have inspired me throughout my life, starting with my mom. Now, they may not all arrive on Mothers’ Day – after all, there are going to be many letters of love to write. And of course, I intend to hand write them, to add that extra personal touch, even though it will take longer. But soon enough, they will all receive one.
The second part of my new Mothers’ Day tradition is to start writing letters to my daughters, because I pray that some day, they will also be mothers. Although they are only one years old right now (twins), someday I want them to open all the letters and be able to read them and see how much I have loved them throughout their lives. In these letters, I am going to include not only my love for them, but also the things they have taught me, and the things I want to make sure I don’t forget to tell them.
And of course, I will also be doing the same for my son once Fathers’ Day rolls around. Even in light of Mothers’ Day, we can’t forget our boys, because after all, honoring a mother is about celebrating a family.
