At the Literacy Council of Bay County we strive to ensure no child or adult is left behind!
Let the Literacy Council help you help yourself through one of our free programs:
  1. Adult Programs: Trained volunteers work one-on-one with adults, children, and families. these tutors help with the following:
  • Learn phonics
  • Improve spelling
  • Improve writing skills
  • Read the newspaper
  • Read to children
  • Help children with homework
  • Study for a driver’s license
2. ESL (English as a Second Language):
  • Teaches basic reading and writing skills
  • Adult oriented vocabulary
  • Introduces terms and phrases necessary for day-to-day survival; signs, forms and applications, money, medical terms, etc.
  • Teaches only one concept at a time in a variety of settings
  • Clear, uncluttered format
  • Contains only text students can read
  • Interspersed reviews
We also offer a Children’s Summer Tutoring Program (Grades K-3rd)
  • We’re always looking for volunteers. Please consider helping a young child learn to read this summer.
  • 1.5 hours a week could mean future success for your student and the children of our community
